WEEKLY ROUND-UP: PRINTS, PLANTS & MORE

Stay at home mandates have rendered many of us indoors, and as citizens around the world adjust to the new normal, those who can afford to have found our homes suddenly becoming sanctuary spaces. Concerning ourselves with items, gadgets, plants and accessories that enhance this feeling has quickly become a top priority. If, like me, this has led to a newfound appreciation for the little things, than this series is for you. Weekly roundups will curate a list of items from brands that I’ve been eyeing: this week, it looks like plant subscriptions, prints and accessories I imagine in my space. Below, my weekly roundup of items I’ve been coveting (and bought) recently.

The Reckoning. Diaz Collections.

The Reckoning. Diaz Collections.

Doriana Diaza Collections Prints : A small collective out of Philadelphia run by Doriana Diaz, I purchased this particular print after coming across the brand on Instagram. Supporting businesses run by women of color goes without saying, and I was delighted to find this small shop, which also features exhibitions and artist resources. The print is perfect for my room, where I’ve been doing some much needed organizing and spatial rethinking. Just need a frame now!

Horti Plant Subscription : Definitely not a plant mama over here. While everyone else seems to be gardening and planting their souls away during quarantine, I just purchased my first succulent. As I certainly do not know the first thing about plants, I was amazed to learn about Horti Plant Subscriptions. With plans that start out at as little as $18/month, learning how to take care of plants has never been easier. I’m excited to try this out and finally cultivate a green space of my dreams.

Kitemakers. Waldia and Company.

Kitemakers. Waldia and Company.

Waldia & Company : With a combination of drawn and digital prints, plus clothing, Waldia & Company is another women of color owned and operated business that I’ve been eyeing recently. I love this particular print (above) for its use of color and abstracted shapes. During the pandemic, they’re also offering downloadable coloring sheets that are pay as you wish, with 100% of the proceeds going to Give India, which is helping migrant workers and laborers in India who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic.

Vases : As you might have heard, Pier 1 Imports is closing all locations due to COVID-19. While extremely unfortunate, as the chain has been well-known for almost 50 years, the changes in retail are unprecedented and largely unknown for the foreseeable future. Although certainly not a small business, I stumbled on some pretty nice accessories and vases that will go perfectly in any space. As the stores begin to liquidate their stock in the coming months, there are some sales in sight. These were some of my favorites: Brown Round Glass Vase and this cute trio of Blue Jugs with Handles.

The appreciation that I have gained over the past two months for small, handmade items that give life to any space has dawned on me slowly, creating a possible look to the future of businesses. Supporting a business that I find through friends or online means more to me now than before, opening my mind to a world of inspirations. Each weekly round-up will feature a mixture of well to lesser known brands: I believe it’s important to find balance, especially in the home, where we are spending more time. Antiques paired with midcentury, modern with eclectic. Excited to share more of my findings with you.
